Charm Builder: Set the Exact Angle for Every Slot

Charm Builder per-slot rotation angle control for Shopify jewelry personalization
On this page

The sideways pendant problem

You designed a pendant necklace where a paw charm hangs at a natural 15-degree tilt — that's the look. But in your TailorKit builder, every slot defaulted to 0°. Customers dropped the paw charm in and it sat upright. The product they received matched the builder, not your design.

Per-slot rotation fixes that at the configuration level, so the builder matches the product from the first drag.

What's new: per-slot rotation control

You can now set a rotation angle on each individual charm slot. When a customer drops a charm into that slot, it snaps immediately to your configured angle — on the storefront customizer, the admin canvas preview, and in the print render sent to fulfillment.

Configuration lives in the Charm Builder sidebar's Placement section, one row per slot in the slot list:

  • Enter any degree value in the Rotation field on each slot row. Degrees clamp on blur — no out-of-range values reach storefront data.
  • To apply a snap cadence to the rotation control, open the Advanced rotation panel and use the Snap to selector: None / 15° / 45° / 90°. This setting applies panel-wide, not per individual slot.
  • Slots without a rotation setting (or set to 0°) behave exactly as before — all existing charm products are fully backwards-compatible.

This update ships alongside a related fix: the Charm Builder inspector now pivots charms at their attachment anchor rather than the bounding-box corner — so a 15° slot produces a natural tilt, not a displaced float.

How rotation is applied

Rotation pivots at the slot's anchor point, not the charm's bounding-box corner. A pendant that attaches at its top edge rotates around that edge, so it hangs naturally regardless of which charm asset the customer picks.

Swapping a charm into a slot configured at 0° also resets the rotation. Previously a charm swapped from a 15° slot could carry its angle into a 0° slot. That no longer happens.

Admin-only authoring

Buyers do not see a rotation handle or control — they just see the charm land correctly in the slot. The angle is your configuration as the merchant, not something buyers adjust.

Does the print output match?

Yes. The print renderer reads the same slot rotation value and applies it to every charm instance in the order — the pivot math is identical between storefront preview and fulfillment output.

Setting it up

  1. Open TailorKit admin → Templates → select your charm-builder template.
  2. In the Charm Builder sidebar, find the Placement section — each charm slot appears as its own row.
  3. On the slot row, enter a degree value in the Rotation field. To set a snap cadence, open Advanced rotation → Snap to and choose your preferred step.
  4. Repeat for each slot that needs a non-zero angle.
  5. Save and republish to push the change to your storefront.

FAQ

What is TailorKit?

TailorKit is a Shopify app that lets merchants offer product personalization — customers design their own text, images, or engravings directly on the product page.

How do I add charm rotation in TailorKit?

In the Charm Builder sidebar's Placement section, find the slot row and enter a degree value in the Rotation field. Save and republish to push the change to your storefront.

Will existing charm products break?

No. Slots without a rotation setting default to 0°, which matches the previous behaviour exactly. No republish or template edit is required for existing products.

Can buyers rotate charms themselves?

Not currently. Rotation is a merchant-configured slot property, not a buyer control — this keeps the builder clean and the product predictable.
